Sneak Peek & Fun Facts

Today, we’re diving into the world of the Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen—or PBGV for short. If that name sounds like a mouthful, just think of them as the joyful, wire-haired rockstars of the hound world.

In fact, a very special PBGV named Myles is set to return as the main character of our upcoming children’s book, Go, Myles, Go!

To celebrate its anticipated release, we’d like to share a sneak peek of our new “Fun Facts” illustration.

To add to the excitement, we’ve also included some fun facts about Myles’ breed that we’re sure will make you fall in love with his character even more.

1. Their Name Tells a Story

The name sounds fancy, but it actually translates to a literal description of what they look like and where they come from:

  • Petit: Small
  • Basset: Low to the ground
  • Griffon: Wiry coat
  • Vendéen: From the Vendée region of France

2. They Are Known as the “Happy Breed”

If you ever meet a PBGV, you’ll notice right away that their tail never stops wagging. This breed is famous for their extroverted, happy-go-lucky personalities. They love people, enjoy making human (and dog) friends, and live life with an absolute sense of joy.

3. They Have a Big Voice

Don’t let their small size fool you. Because they were originally bred to hunt in packs, they have a loud, musical bark. They love to “talk” and let everyone know exactly what they’re thinking!

4. They Sport a “Tousled” Look

PBGVs are supposed to look like they just rolled out of bed. Their rough, wire coat gives them a naturally messy, casual look. It also protects them from brambles and bushes, making them perfect for outdoor adventures.

5. They Are Independent Thinkers

These dogs are highly intelligent but also famously independent. They have a mind of their own, which makes them highly entertaining, a little mischievous, and full of character—just like Myles!

Keep an eye out for more updates on Go, Myles, Go! to see how Myles puts all of these fun traits to use in his upcoming adventure!
